The Fishing Diary was designed by anglers for anglers.

Every successful angler knows that the key to catching more and larger fish is to better understand their behaviour.

Rigs, bait, tackle all come second to watercraft and an understanding of fish behaviour.

That’s where this book comes in - it helps you to record your thoughts, your observations and your catches (and blanks).

When you record your successes and failures you will learn more about your chosen quarry and, ultimately, become a better angler.

James White, Founder of The Fishing Diary

First and foremost I’m an angler.

I’ve also been fortunate enough to write for many of the UK’s leading fishing magazines.

My Dad taught me to fish when I was six. He used to row the boat out into the middle of the lake and I’d trawl a homemade fly behind us for trout.

We spent years fishing on the river Shannon in Ireland for massive hauls of Bream. And he helped me catch my first double figure Barbel on the River Kennet.

In later years my Dad loved fishing for big Carp. But it wasn’t until he died that I caught the Carp fishing bug.

It was my Dad that taught me the importance of watercraft, the effects of the weather and how your chosen quarry behaves.

So, in many ways, you could say that this book was inspired by him. Thanks, Dad.

I studied journalism at university and was lucky enough to regularly contribute to The Anglers Mail, The Angling Times and Match Fishing Magazine.

Nowadays I run a number of corporate training companies and a podcasting businesses.

I remain a keen fly, carp and pleasure fisherman.
